The human eye "cannot" see in the infrared spectrum. The pictures above, were taken with a special infrared camera. These cameras can identify heat (radiation) from an object that is invisible to our eyes, which is translated through complex algorithms so that we can then view the heat (radiation) from those objects in the infrared spectrum. Simply put, if the objects above were in total darkness, an infrared camera would produce just about the exact same pictures you see.
